What Causes Pain Under The Right Rib Cage While Breathing?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Jan 2017
Question: Earlier today I experienced sudden acute pain under the back right rib cage around the right shoulder blade, hurt even to take a deep breath. The pain lasted about a half hour, and has reduced down to a dull ache in the same area about 12 hours later. It is now a moderate discomfort when I breath deep or flex the area. I have had kidney stones in the past, as well as a gallbladder removal, but an ultra sound about 8 weeks ago was negative for stones. Could I have developed a small stone in such a short time, or might it be something more serious?

Brief Answer:
KUB radiography recommended

Detailed Answer:
hi.
thanks for posting query at HCM.

went through your history and current presentation.
gall stones are very UNLIKELY.

most likely differential includes a Urinary tract infection and/or Kidney stones.
therefore, your recommended to have a Kidney Ureter Bladder (KUB) radiography test to rule out kidney stones. Pain of kidney stones is colicky in nature and its at the back ( as your current presentation) .

other tests:
Urinalysis
and complete Blood cell count test

meanwhile, drink plenty of water.

further questions are welcomed.
wish you good n sound health
