What Causes Painful Bumps On Neck And Behind Ear?

Question: I have noticed lumps on my head and now my neck and behind my ear. They are painful to the touch and are somewhat painful even without touching them. They appeared overnight and some have formed literally in the last few hours. They are primarily on the back of my head and only on the right side of my head and neck. What should I be concerned about? I have not had any recent head or neck injury nor have I struck my head or body in any way.
Brief Answer:

Hi
I understand your concern regarding your skin problem and I hope I am able to help you in the same.
You seem to have developed herpes zoster.
It is basically a viral infection which needs to be treated as early as possible for maximum relief.
So I would advise you to see your nearby doctor as soon as possible so that you can get a prescription of oral antivirals.

Thank you. I am currently taking augmentin for a sinus infection and wonder if that would that also manage this? Or do I need to take something different in order to manage the herpes zoster? I have had oral herpes in the past and have taken Valtrex to manage that. I have never had this particular reaction to an outbreak. I also have a toddler - is there any risk to her?
Brief Answer:
Need to take oral Antivirals
Detailed Answer:
Hi again
Augmentin would not be able to help you since it is an antibiotic agent.
Valtrex is what you might need to take in a dose of 1 gm tablet thrice a day for five to seven days. So you might need to get a prescription for the same .
Since you got a toddler at home, it's best to avoid touching the affected area since the fluid from the lesions might be contagious .
Also avoid contact with the baby as much as possible .
