Brief Answer:
lateral position of resting

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir, thanks for trusting me with your health concerns.
Most probably she has lipomas which are very common and at times increase in size during pregnancy.
They are benign and usually don't create any problems.
But as your wife is 30 weeks pregnant the gravid uterus at times puts pressure on the affected area with lipoma so has now started paining.
All she needs is to sleep on either side rather than lying straight so that the pressure is not directly on the affected area.
Also if that area is painful to the extent that she is not feeling comfortable she can apply diclofenac gel locally twice a day.
But in case it persists for more than 3 days despite above measures then you should visit a surgeon and get it evaluated.
All the best.

Brief Answer:
surgical removal is safe

Detailed Answer:
Yes the presence of these swellings since a couple of years is even more suggestive of lipoma.
They are very common and usually don't trouble the patients.
But as she has got symptoms and if at all these symptoms are not relieved by simple measures (though I'm sure she will be fine soon) then definitely visit surgeon.
If he suggests to remove it then go for it as it is a simple procedure which will be completed in few minutes under local anaesthesia.
Oil massage can be tried but in case it doesn't help then add diclofenac gel twice a day which will relieve the symptoms faster.
I hope these routine measures will give her complete relief.
Take care.

Brief Answer:
avoid surgery if mild pain

Detailed Answer:
In my opinion either visit a skin special is or a surgeon but preferably a surgeon.
If he suggests removal then it can be done there and then if the pain is bothersome.
But if she is having only mild pain which is decreasing in intensity after bed rest in sideways position then you can avoid surgery till pregnancy is over because lipomas usually decrease to normal pre pregnancy size after delivery.
Wish her best of health.

thankss dr...will surgery bring any effect to her pregnancy...and how much time will it take to recover her after surgery...

Answered by Dr. Manisha Jain (4 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
no effect on pregnancy

Detailed Answer:
No surgery will be under local anaesthesia only and will take less than fifteen minutes.
A dressing will be applied to be removed after 3-4 days. There will be mild pain at removal site for a few hours.
But I hope she will be fine soon with simple rest and massage.
Wish her best of everything.

Brief Answer:
safe in pregnancy

Detailed Answer:
Diclofenac gel can be safely applied locally.
Apply it for twice a day and she will be fine soon.
It is a mild analgesic and anti inflammatory and will comfort her very well.
I hope my reply has relieved your anxiety.
She is lucky to have such a well informed and caring husband.

hello dr i visited a surgeon 2 hours before....and he told me not to worry abt that...he also ask me abt my wife thyroid status...is there any connection of thyroid and this. ..
doctor
Answered by Dr. Manisha Jain (45 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
see detailed description

Detailed Answer:
No sir as far as the best of my knowledge there is no relationship between thyroid status and lipoma.
But if he has advised it he must be having something in mind.
Otherwise also she was due for her repeat test for thyroid hormone levels in a while so you can get it and report to him in case the pain persists despite of lying on either side and after application of diclofenac gel.
All the best.

Detailed Answer:
That's good.
I would like to tell you that you are in safe hands and that he is right in saying that if there is not much problem to her then he will prefer doing it after delivery.
Cholesterol is an indirect evidence that it is a lipoma so get it done at random whenever you go for thyroid hormone test and this no need to give sample just for cholesterol test.
I wish her the best of health and may god bless you both with a healthy baby soon.
