What Causes Painful Soft Spot Behind Left Ear?
Question: Soft spot behind do the left ear, painful to the touch and pulsating
Hi,
It's been 3 weeks that I've noticed a tender spot behind my left ear, on the skull that is constantly pulsating.
Yesterday I noticed a small lump at the area. I am currently pregnant and these symptoms started when I was hospitalized for 3 weeks ago because of premature contractions. What can it be?

Brief Answer:
Inflammed node / cyst...
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
At the outset, let me assure you this is unlikely to be related to pregnancy and the hospitalization.
The spot tenderness is mostly arising from a local infection. Inflammed and tender lymph nodes or a cyst (sebaceous) and other blocked glands/hair follicles are the likely causes. Since you are pregnant, I wouldn't start you on pain medicine unless your gynecologist agrees to it. You should try warm compresses on the affected area. It will alleviate this pain and visit your gynecologist / ENT surgeon for a prescription of safe medicines.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you need clarifications.
Regards

When should i seek medical help? What other symptoms should ilook for?
Brief Answer:
Seek help now....
Detailed Answer:
As this tender spot has been around for more than 3 weeks now, it is worthwhile to seek medical attention now. I didn't mean its sinister condition, but I wish you be started on adequate anti inflammatory measures.
You should consult the gynecologist and request for an ENT referral.
In the mean time, I would observe for fever, ear pain, ear discharge, impaired hearing and other localised symptoms.
Hope this suffices.
Regards
