Posted on Fri, 6 Feb 2015
Question: my son who is 17 has swollen or enlarged joints on the tips of some of his fingers. He says they are uncomfortable sometimes pain in the whole fingers and they sometimes swell. I was told by a dr that its just the growth plates from him growing. Should I get a second opinion, or could it possibly be just the growth plates. Also they have been like this for several months

Brief Answer:
Hi and welcome to HCM

Detailed Answer:
This is probably the condition that his doctor describes, but in some cases it may indicate something more serious such as autoimmune disoredes, juvenile arthritis, rheumatoid arhritis etc. Considering these photos I dont think that you should be worried, but if symptoms persist for several weeks, he should consult immunologist or rheumatolgist for further tests and evaluation. WIsh you good health. Regards
