What Causes Painless Lump On The Inner Right Bicep?

default
Posted on Thu, 23 Jun 2016
Question: My 16 year old son just told me about a small, marble sized bump on his inner right bicep. He noticed it several days ago and said he thinks it's a little larger now, but not certain. He said it is not painful at all. He lifts weights daily for football and is very lean. When his arm is straight, it is not really noticeable but when he flexes his bicep, you can see it clearly.

Brief Answer:
Most probably harmless fat collection called Lipoma

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Thanks for the query.

If the lump is painless, slow growing, soft to firm in consistency, with presence of similar swellings on the other side and/or other parts of the body, it is most probably a harmless fat collection called Lipoma. It is basically a benign tumor which is harmless.

You can get an ultrasound to find out the contents of this lump and it would be able to say if this is Lipoma.

Avoid applying too much pressure for long time at a particular spot as trauma in such diem can cause a Lipoma.

No treatment is required unless it is disturbing him cosmetically or causing lot of pain.

I hope I have answered your query.

Thank you for the response, I really appreciate it. The area isn't causing any pain and he isn't complaining about it at all. Should i restrict his weight training or any physical activity such as his football training for any oeriod of time? Thank you again .
