Question: Hi. The palms of my hands turn purple mostly when I am exercising...my toes have been turning purple for some time now. About 6 months ago it was suspected I had Lupus. Further testing found I did not. What would cause the purple discoloration?

Brief Answer:
cyanosis.avoid cold.drink plenty of water. drug

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I went through the query and understood your concern.

Purple discoloration in the extremities is due to lack of blood suppy to the periphery.
Since its happening only during exercise, there may be shunting of blood to vital organs from periphery. Get checked for colour doppler in upper and lower limbs to know the status of blood vessels.

Maintain your hemoglobin level in normal range, BP and drink plenty of water. Avoid working in cold water or cold weather. Daily use of drug pentoxyphylline will help your condition as this will allow Red Blood Cells to be more flexible and hence reach the target easily and hence there won't be cyanosis(blur/purple discoloration).

I hope this information helps you. Feel free to ask for any further queries. I will be glad to answer them.

Wish you good health.
Regards
