What Causes Pancreatic Elastase?

Question: What is Pancreatic Elastcaste-(spelling may be incorrect) onstese. Recent diagnosis, appt w/specialist in two weeks, would like to know now what this means. Had colonoscopy & Endoscopy, the results were negative. Scheduled for PET scan next week. We would just like to know what the diagnosis means before then.

Pancreatic elastaze is a finding which tells us how well is pancreas exocrine functions. It means, enzymes secretion. Low values are seen if there is pancreas insufficiency such as pancreatitis, pseudocyst, tumors... PET scan will rule out tumors and if there is pancreas insufficiency then it's functions may be replaced with pills such as Kreon.

He had to discontinue Creon because of nausea and upset stomach. I will contact his Gastro. doctor Monday to see if there is something else he can try. Thank you for your prompt reply.
