What Causes Patchy Brown Skin Above The Ankle And Between The Knees?
Question: The skin on both legs above the ankle and between the knee is mottled. I am an 88 year old male . No pain just a different skin color. kind of brownish . patchy looking. I wear long trousers so it is not caused by the sun. I have had this for a very long time . not uncomfortable at all. wouldn't even know I had it if I didn't see it.

These spots are normal with age. This results from the thinning of the skin that allows blood to easily move out of the vessels into the surrounding. This takes the form or blue, brown, etc colorations/deposits. It is most common around very active joints and areas that are exposed to relatively hard surfaces like buttocks and back areas.
They generally cause no symptoms and represent no disease condition. What most of my clients are concerned about ids the look and am happy you seem not bothered by this.

I am on medications, Crestor, Amlodipine, hydrochlorthyizide and Diltiazim, so I do have some swelling of the lower leg. Does this make a difference?
