Question: I have been getting weird pressure type feelings in my head for the last few months. I get dizzy and i dont hear right during this time. I have been "popping" my ears to help take the feeling away, but its getting more frequent and I am wondering if i should be worried, or have further testing done

Brief Answer:
Check blood pressure, ear examination, ENT opinion, no worries

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the query,

I understand this could be very disturbing. However, it might be good to check on your blood pressure readings lately. It is not rare for raised blood pressure values to be accompanied by such a feeling.

I strongly suggest a visit to the ear nose and throat specialist. A complete examination of the ear might be needed. Accumulation of ear wax and consequent blocking of the eustachian tube (drainage tube between ear and external structures) could explain such a feeling. Ear washing at times might be sufficient.

It might be of interest to know if you have experienced any itches or vertigo. Diseases like Meniere's disease could be possible causes and treatment with Cyclizine could be sufficient.

I think you need not be so worried, but an opinion from an ENT specialist and a proper clinical examination is needed.

Thanks and kind regards as I wish you the best of health. Please, do feel free asking further questions in case of need.

Kind regards,

Dr Bain
