What Causes Persistent Blisters Outside The Mouth When Diagnosed With Coxsackie Virus?
Question: My 3 yr old toddler was dx'd with Coxsackie virus on Dec 26th. He had a fever for 3 - 4 days. He had a few blisters in his throat but only had one sore on the outside of the mouth. Dr said that it should only last upwards of a week. 4 weeks later and he's had some blisters on his trunk and itchiness that comes and goes. He has blisters all over the outside of his mouth that won't go away. His appetite was off for about 2 weeks but is better now.
How much longer can this go on? Is there anything at all I can do for his blisters?
He had this virus when he was 18 months and it only lasted a week and was definitely more mild. I understand there are different strains but this seems quite a bit prolonged at this point.

Brief Answer:
Application of calamine lotion can help.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
There are numerous viruses (not only different strains) that cause infections in children. I do not think that this is a continuation of the previous infection but probably a whole new episode. Hence 'how long can it go on' does not apply.
About the blisters, I would insist you to upload an image of the blisters so that I can be better able to comment.
Application of calamine lotion can be helpful. You can also give him cetirizine once daily for the next few days.
I will await your response.
