What Causes Persistent Cough And Nose Congestion While Sleeping In An Infant?
Question: my child is suffering from cough from last 10 days. kindly suggest home made treatment. medicines are not working. her nose gets blocked while sleeping
Brief Answer:
Rule out adenoid hypertrophy.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your query.
1. Steam inhalation (supervised to avoid scalds and burns) and short term OTC nasal decongestant drops ( 0.05 % Xylometazoline ) should work. Keep your child warm. Give warm fluids and adequate rest. A cough suppressant containing dextromethorphan and a mixture of honey, fresh cream and ginger will help reduce cough.
2. The most common cause for recurrent, persisting cold and nose block in children is adenoid enlargement. What is your child's age? Get an X-ray skull lateral view for adenoids done and upload it here.
I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.
Regards.
