What Causes Persistent Ear Ache, Fluid In Ear And Muffled Ear?

Question: I had a cold about a week ago. I also had ear pain for about 2 days. The ear pain went away, but now I have fluid in one ear. It feels like water stuck in my ear where everything sounds muffled. Its not painful just very annoying. I saw a regular dr. yesterday who said its not an infection and to take sinus meds and nose spray to break it up. Is this something I need to wait out before it goes away or is there something I can do? I've tried at home treatments- olive oil, alcohol and vinegar In my ear, trying to pop my ears. nothing is working. What should I do?
Brief Answer:
OME/SOM.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your query.
1. This seems to be an Otitis Media with Effusion (OME) also known as an XXXXXXX (Serous Otitis Media).
2. Get a PTA (Pure Tone Audiogram) and an I/A (Impedance Audiogram/ Tympanogram) done.
3. Resolution may require up to 4 to 6 weeks. This can be speeded up by medication as suggested by your doctor. Add regular steam inhalation and OTC decongestant nasal drops (0.1% Xylometazoline) fir a few days.
4. The home remedies will not work as the problem is behind the ear drum.
5. Upload these test results to discuss further treatment options.
I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.
Regards.
