What Causes Persistent Fever, Cold And Intermittent Cough In A Child?
Question: my son has esr 52 fever for three days with cold
cough intermittently
cough intermittently
Brief Answer:
Likely to be due to viral infection
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
Most often fever in children is due to viral infection. ESR is a non-specific indicator that there is some illness in the body (which you know anyway due to the fever). Unless other blood parameters are deranged, you need not worry and all you need to do is to give paracetamol or acetaminophen if the fever is greater than 100F. Give cetirizine once daily for next few days as cold is usually associated with an allergic componet.
Giving steam inhalation should help. Water in form of vapor reaches deep inside and dilutes the cough and thus provides relief.
Let me know if I could help further.
