What Causes Persistent Fever, Fatigue, Loss Of Appetite And Sore Throat?

default
Posted on Mon, 30 May 2016
Question: I have not been feeling well the last two weeks. I have had a fever over 100 a couple of times. I am fatigued, have no appetite, soar throat, watery eyes, running nose and sometimes a rapid heart rate. I want to sleep and have missed college classes. I have had mono in the past and my tonsils removed. I also know that it is allergy season especially being in a new environment at college. I have had all required immunizations. Any concerns?

Brief Answer:
??Sounds more like a URTI to me

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. Based on the information provided, it does sound like you could have an infection, and although allergens can contribute to the condition, they are not the sole cause primarily because you have had a fever a couple of times indicating an infection of some sort (most probably an upper respiratory tract infection).

Such an infection is usually treated with the help of the following:

+Antibiotic coverage (e.g. azithromycin)
+Anti-histamine (e.g. cetrizine, loratadine, etc.)
+Anti-inflammatory medication (to help with the fever like advil or tylenol)
+Mouth wash/rinse (E.g. betadine mouth wash)
+Lukewarm salt water gargles
+Bed rest
+Warm liquid diet (E.g. soups)
+Steam inhalation may also help

I hope you find my response helpful. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.
