What Causes Persistent Fever, Rashes On Face And Productive Cough In A Child?
Question: My 5 year old was throwing up Sat with temp of 102.5. Sunday just a temp up and down. Monday went to doctor because he also developed a rash all over face, chest, and back. My son was tested for strep it was negative doctor said the test only test for on strain. Put him on a antibiotic. He got his temp back Thursday evening 100.4. No temp this morning called doctor because he now has green spotty nose and coughing. Doctor said keep take antibiotic, suck is snot out and give him Advil every 4 hours. His temp has started again tonight 101.

Your child has fever for almost one week inspite of giving antibiotics.
In my opinion, child should be tested for typhoid and test like typhoid Igm.
Temperature charting three times a day should be done so that we can know whether child is responding to antibiotics or not.
Give advil syrup for fever.
Continue antibiotic till you do the tests.
If tests comes positive then antibiotic needs to be changed.

Typhoid occurs due to infected water or food and not by travel.
Although chances are rare but we must rule out typhoid because of fever of more than 5 days duration.
