Brief Answer:
Triptan group of drug with primary prophylaxis
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing to me directly.
For severe migraine triptan group of drugs are very useful. Sumatriptan is available in oral form as well as nasal spray. Rizatriptan is dissolving tablet. Others are zolmitriptan and amlotriptan. More or less all are same.
Sumatriptan can be taken in dose of 50 to 100 mg dose according to severity. It should be taken as soon as you feel starting of migraine attack.
For better outcome it is better to take medicines regularly for primary prophylaxis like propranolol, amitryptiline or valproate.
Take care.

Thanks for your reply. I am taking medicines regularly for primary prophylaxis, they are amitryptiline and flunarizine. I just wanted a strong pain killer as soon as i feel migraine headache. As you suggested, I will start taking Sumatriptan as soon as i feel starting of migraine attack. Please let me know if you have any comments or suggestions.
Brief Answer:
Keep headache diary
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Yes you can start Sumatriptan with current medications.
You should maintain headache diary. Note down frequency of headache with severity, date, time, duration, any precipitating factor like food/noise/sunlight and relief with medicine. This will help to know the course of your migraine and treatment can be changed accordingly.
Wish you good time.
