What Causes Persistent Irritation In The Pharynx And Acid Reflux?

default
Posted on Sat, 18 Jun 2016
Question: I've had this irritation in my pharynx for the past month after having some acid reflux. It hasn't gotten any better and I'm starting to think maybe it is not acid reflux and that it might something more serious. For the most part it doesn't bother me too much, but I can still feel the presence of the irritation. I mostly feel it in the morning when I wake up, my pharynx will feel really raw and dry. I would really like to your professional medical opinion. Attached are some pictures.

Brief Answer:
Most probably you may be suffering from the granular pharyngitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir,
I have gone through your question, images and understand your worry and concern; and it suggests that most probably you may be suffering from the granular pharyngitis.

If I were your treating doctor then I would prescribe you
1. Tablet Azithromycin 500mg once a day.
2. Tablet Fexofenadine 120mg once a day.
3. Hexidine mouth gargles twice a day.
4. Avoid cold drinks, cold water and ice cream.

Continue the above mentioned treatment for 7 days after consulting with your doctor. If the condition not improved after 7 days then better to go for the throat swab culture and antibiotic sensitivity.

In your experience with granular pharyngitis, does it go away on its own or does it require medical treatment? I think the reason why it doesn't heal properly because I keep eating foods or drinks that irritate my pharynx and I'm thinking just going strictly water and tea for a couple days would help it out. The reason why I am reaching out to you is that I'm in a remote area where I don't have access to a specialist at the moment. I will be leaving this place shortly so I can receive treatment locally. What foods or drinks should I stick to or stay away from besides the ones that you listed?

Brief Answer:
Most of time it requires the medical treatment

Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir,

Granular pharyngitis requires the medical treatment. Most often it doesn't resolve without medications. But yes, you should avoid irritating food. I wouldn't suggest fasting. Avoid spicy and sour food.

Beside, gargling with XXXXXXX warm water should ease some discomfort.
