What Causes Persistent Itching Sensation On Clitoris?

default
Posted on Tue, 21 Jul 2015
Question: Hi,
I have a very personal question to ask concerning an itchy clitoris. I had a urine test done about three weeks ago and it came back positive for UTI. I was prescribed Bactrim for three days and the UTI went away but about three days later I started to have symptoms of a yeast infection. I was itchy down there but only on my clitoris and labia, not inside my vagina. I did not see a doctor concerning the possible yeast infection because soon after I started my period and the symptoms seemed to have subsided. However in this last week I have still had itching in the folds of my clitoris. I am wondering if I could have a minor yeast infection just in that spot. I have had this itching for about two weeks in that spot. I have no other symptoms, and no discharge. So far, I have been treating it with mild vinegar baths and hydrocortisone cream. I have also tried applying triple antibiotic cream to my clitoris and it seems to help. I have been faithfully married for ten years (I am sure it is not a STI) and I am not pregnant because I have had a tubal ligation after my third child. If it is a yeast infection, can it be treated without seeing a doctor? Can yeast infections go away without medication? What else could be causing this uncomfortable itching, besides a yeast infection? and can a yeast infection only affect the clitoris? Also is it ok that I have been applying triple antibiotic cream to my clitoris?
Thank you for your time. Any advice is very much appreciated! XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
vulval candidiasis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to hcm,
if you have been experiencing itching around clitoris and its not getting subsided on its own then yeast infection is the most likely diagnosis. Please don't apply antibiotic cream or steroid cream as they would not treat the fungus but instead increase it .
You have to be placed on oral FLUCONAZOLE 150mg tab once a week for 2 weeks and apply local miconazole 1% ointment thrice a day over the clitoris. You have to keep the local area clean and moisture free.
Vinegar washes can decrease the itching for sometime but it is not the treatment.
Wear loose cotton under garments to avoid constant irritation and friction of clitoris which can again cause itching.
