What Causes Persistent Left Lower-quadrant Pain?
Question: I have had LLQ pain for about three weeks. I had it for a while 5 or so years ago. I had a colonoscopy 2 years ago and CT which were clear. Diarrhea for 3 days about two weeks ago. Nothing seems to take away the pain. Hurts most when sitting. I have been told in the past that I have diverticulitis and IBS but have never really had any symptoms typical of that. I am afraid of having cancer. What could be going on and what should I do?
Brief Answer:
Diverticles inflammation.
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Thank you for the query.
LLQ pain is quite characteristic for an inflammation of diverticles. As you have diverticles diagnosed, this is very probable. Cancer is not that probable, especially that you have had colonoscopy 2 years ago. Please note that colon cancer usually develops 10 years. So this is not the case.
I suggest you to consult your doctor. Abdominal ultrasound and CBC should be done. In case of elevated white blood count, antibiotics are necessary. Please do not ignore your symptoms. Untreated diverticulitis can result with intestine perforation.
Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
