What Causes Persistent Slurred Speech Despite Taking Medication?
So nice to hear from you. I got an email saying there was no more value addition to the process so I did not bother you. To he last time I told you about my daughter's slurred voice. Despite withdrawal of Otosil and addition of new medication Laxyl 3mg: 1+1+1 and Hexinor 5mg: 1+1+1 along with previous medication Mirtaz7.5: 0+0+1; Qpine 25mg: 0+0+1 and Gabatine 300: 0+0+1 the slurred speech hasn't improved much. The doses of the first two medication are prescribed for one week ending tomorrow. We will se her doc tomorrow. She sleeps a lot and still complains about having depression. We are a bit frustrated as she is still not back to normal life e.g. Work, study, exercise etc. We hope for the medication is significantly reduced and something is done to restore the slurred speech. Do you have any suggestion. On previous occasion a homeo doc who passed away a few years back gave a medication that worked within days to restore her speech. The name of the medicine or the dose is not known now. Once again many thanks for reaching out. Eagerly look forward to hearing from you.

Speech will improve gradually
Detailed Answer:
Hi, Mr. XXXX, sorry for delay in answering because of festive season here.
I have read your query and understood your concerns.
I think speech should have improved by half. I feel that she might be better in terms of speech than before. She is on the right medications and these drugs are enough. If she has excessive sleep than laxyl can be reduced. Hexinor 5 mg three times a day is a high dose so it can also be reduced.
Whatever drugs I know, I have already suggested. Now without seeing her in person I can not suggest much.
You can ask the doctor to reduce the drugs both laxyl and hexinor, if possible because sometimes these drugs can cause speech difficulties due to sedation they cause. So, if she is excessively sedated then the improvement in speech will be masked by it. So, in my opinion she should receive lower doses of drugs.
Apart from this, there is one drugs which can be used for her but it causes some side effects and it is not right for her at present, so I am not suggesting it right now
Hope I have answered your query. If you have any other query thenn feel free to ask.
Regards,
Dr Ravi Soni.
We saw the doctor on Oct 1. She has reduced Laxyl: the dose for three days is 1+1+1/2 and thereafter 1+1+0. She has also asked us to stop Qpine 25 mg after 7 days. Her speech recovery is less than 40% but fluctuates e.g. gets worse. She increased Mirtaz 7.5 mg by 1/2 at night.
Do you think any dose of Indevar (Propranolol Hcl) can be of help because she was given this medication earlier by psychiatrists. She did not demonstrate any side-effects of this medicine. Not sure if this could replace or reinforce any current medication. Otherwise, her mental framework is showing signs of improvement.
BTW, she has been taking Bromergon 2.5 mg for a moth now and her prolactin level has came down to 67 from 173 when tested on Oct 23. The next test will be done on Nov 23. Current dose is 1+0+1. We will see her doctor again on Nov 9.

Indevar will not be of any help
Detailed Answer:
Hello, Mr XXXX, Sorry for delay in answer.
She is improving mentally that is a good sign.
Now about the drugs:
1. Laxyl is reduced that is good, now her consciousness will be clear, so we can see improvement in speech, if it is there. If possible ask the doctor to shift the dose at night only.
2. I think indevar will not be any help to her because Indevar is given in different side effects from other medications.
3. Her prolactin level has reduce to 67 from 173 that is very good, but normal level in a female who is not pregnant is 6 to 29. So, the Bromergon in a dose 2.5 mg 1-0-1 should be continued until her prolactin level is reduced to 20-30.
4. Doctor has not reduced hexinor but I think it should have been reduced because it causes many side effects and this much high dose is not required in her current condition.
5. Doctor has stopped Qpine, that is good. There was no role of this drug in her treatment in current condition.
7. Mirtaz (Mirtazapine) is an antidepressant drug. Doctor might have given this to improve her current condition on the basis of her symptoms. So, the doctor treating her currently is a better judge in the matter of drugs.
I have given my thoughts and suggestions. IF any changes are to be done, it can be done only after discussion with the doctor.
Hope I have answered my query, if you have nay further query then fell free to ask.
Regards, Dr Ravi Soni.
