What Causes Persistent Swelling Of The Right Eye?

default
Posted on Wed, 29 Jun 2016
Question: My 7 yo's right eye keeps swelling up (the lids and tissue around the eye, not the eye itself). It is the right eye and was the right eye twice before. The last time it happened, the doctor told us to use Benadryl in case it was allergies and prescribed an antibiotic in case it was bacterial. Neither seemed to have any effect and the swelling stayed bad fro about 5 days. He has had three events in the span of about 1.5 months. My wife and I have discussed anything new he may have been introduced to in the past couple of months. The only things we've come up with is a new body wash and a new toothpaste.

Brief Answer:
Following possible causes...a photo of his eyes is needed

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through the medical history of your son and first let me recapitalize his current problems:
- swollen right eye
- swelling appearing in the morning mostly
- going on for 1.5 months till now
- benadryl or antibiotics not helping

Now, I need to have a look at your son's eye first. Can you send a photo?

Next, allergy is one possible cause. As you say to have started a new body wash shampoo and a new toothpaste, I recommend first to not to use them for a while and see possible changes.

Another possible cause could be infection of lacrimal gland. Have you consulted an eye specialist so far?

Another diagnosis to consider is problems with kidney infection/disease especially if your child is not circumcized.

Looking forward to have the requested photo and info in.
