What Causes Persistent Vertigo Despite Taking Vertigon?

default
Posted on Fri, 16 Dec 2016
Question: Hi,
I am having slight vertigo since last 15 days during daytime.
Tow days back I visited my family doctor he checked my BP which was 140/90 and prescribed tab.tenelol 25 and tab vertigon.
I am taking these from last two day but still feeling slight vertigo.
Few years back my left eardrum was ruptured due to explosive sound ,but I don't feel any pain in Ear. However since it's a big hole,a reputed ENT specialist of my city advised me for surgery of eardrum two years back.
I am also having hyperacidity since last one & half year.
I Want to know the exact reason of vertigo .

Brief Answer:
This needs further investigation.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. Vertigo due to the exposed balance system (because you have a long standing ear drum perforation) is a possible cause. This vertigo will be a spinning sensation, usually with movement of the head against gravity, but cold air or water entering the ear canal can produce the vertigo without movement of the head.

2. Acidity and gastritis can also cause dizziness which is more an imbalance rather than a rapidly spinning sensation.

3. Without direct examination it is difficult to pinpoint the exact cause for your vertigo. An ENT Specialist and a Neurologist can examine you and help you out.

4. If this is not possible, try answering the questions below:
a. The exact moment when it all started,
b. How often and how long do the episodes last? Is it continuous?
c. Any other associated symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting or sweating?
d. I need to know if your hearing is normal. Does it fluctuate? Do you get any sounds (tinnitus) or fullness in the ear?
e. Is the dizziness true vertigo (spinning of the surrounding) or only unsteadiness.
f. Is the dizziness only when there is change of position (such as lie down or sit up)? Can you walk without support? Do you get dizzy when you turn in bed or look up while climbing stairs?
g. Is your vision clear or blurred? Is there any tendency to blackout?
h. Do you have history of any neck related problems or head injury.
i. Any headaches or migraine?
j. Any recent cold?

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any follow up queries I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
