What Causes Persistent Vomiting And Weight Loss While Treating Allergy?

default
Posted on Fri, 23 Oct 2015
Question: My 14 year old daughter is experiencing some terrible affects from allergies. She has been vomiting at least 1 x a day usually in the morning and sometimes after lunch for about 5 weeks due to post nasal drip (what the doctors say). She has had 2 rounds of antibiotics, Zyrtec, Singulair and Flonase. She is feeling no relief! She just finished her Z pack (2nd round) on Tuesday and has vomited each day since. She has lost 5 pounds. No pain in the stomach and no blood. The vomit is clear. She carries on with her life after each episode.
Should I take her to an ear, nose and throat specialist? I do not know how to help her or where to go.

Brief Answer:
It could be Gastroesophageal reflux or Eating disorder

Detailed Answer:
Hi.....by what you quote I feel she's having a Gastroesophageal reflux rather than an allergy or vomiting due to post nasal drip.

I have a few questions for you...

1. Does she vomit every time she eats or only in the morning?

2. Is there any history of allergy of any sort (like persistent sneezing/ wheezing / coughing) in her or in the family?

3. Does she cough and vomit or does it without coughing?

4. What is her exact date of birth, current weight and height?

5. Does she have any problems in school or is she scared?

6. Does she eat more at times and eat less at times?

7. Do you feel that she is more concerned about her body image off late?

8. Do you feel that anybody is ridiculing her that she's over weight?

9. Does she have any chronic fever or cough?

10. Is anybody in the family has tuberculosis or being treated for it?

XXXXXXX is 5'4" 140 lbs 1/21/01 is her birth date...she only vomits early morning with a lot of coughing and hacking in the morning. She does not vomit after she eats normally, but sometimes if it is an early lunch. She eats a very good supper as se is so hungry by the end of the day. I do no believe this has anything to do with an eating disorder.
No problems at school...a good student, athlete and has many friends. We do not have a family history of allergies as such. This is new and worrisome to us.
No one has had tuberculosis. She has never had a fever or pain due to this vomiting.
She is at her worst in the morning.
What type of specialist should I take her to?

Brief Answer:
You need to consult a gastroenterologist

Detailed Answer:
Hi.....coming to your query directly, you need to seek the Consultation of a Gastroenrerologist.

Why I am saying this is sometimes, the gastric acidity in the stomach comes up the esophagus and gets aspirated into the Lungs and causes intense cough and breathlessness and in turn it will cause vomiting and weight loss.
