What Causes Pink Vaginal Discharge After Urinating Post A Transvaginal Ultrasound?

default
Posted on Mon, 7 Jul 2014
Question: I had a transvaginal ultrasound and was told it was unremarkable. Kining was 5mm. There was just link on toilet tissue after urinating once in Oct, and once this past May. It has been 3 weeks since ultrasound was done. I have allergies with very harsh sneezing and coughing, and today light pink on toilet paper after urinating. I was also told vaginal was atrophied, Should I be concerned?

Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
Did you have a gynaecological exam with the scanning ?
A per vaginum and per speculum exam and a Pap smear is also essential in addition to a scan.
If not done, please get that done.
ALso, atrophic vaginitis is a likely diagnosis at your age.
IN this condition, due to local hormonal imbalance , the vagina gets dry, atrophic and easily prone to injury and breakage.
Spotting is a typical symptom.
The treatment involves local estrogen cream application and use of lubricants during intercourse.
All the best

Thank you...Prior to transvaginal/abdominal ultrasound, pap was normal, and pelvic exam done. Dr. saw some blood around cervix, could not tell where it was coming from. I am very healthy, about 40 lbs overweight that I am shedding with dieting. If there was any cancer, would this exam/scans have picked it up? They are telling me no cancer, and if I have any pain or more bleeding, they will send me to a gyno dr. The pelvic was done by my primary care doc of 35 years. I read online that the cut off for endometrial lining should be 3 or 4, and that with 5mm, and biopsy should be performed???

Detailed Answer:
Hi again.
IF there was any cervical cancer, the exam and Pap would pick it up.
THe scan too would pick up uterine / cervical cancer.
The cut off going by a textbook is 4mm, but 5mm is not ominous at all.
There is always an interobserver variation - even if the same person measures the lining twice, an error of 1 mm ( and you can imagine how small a dimension that is ) would creep in.
You have nothing to worry about - however, an endometrial biopsy ( office procedure and fairly quick, simple and painless ) would just provide you with further reassurance.
Weight loss will obviously help.
Take care.
