Brief Answer:
ECG to rule out myocardial infarction.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking.

I am Dr. Prakash HM and I will be answering your query.

The following are the possible causes in my opinion:

1. Pinprick like pain - should get an ECG to rule out any heart attack. Commonly it can be associated with shortness of breath, increased pulse rate and pounding heartbeats. However, ECG is necessary.

2. Muscle or bone trauma can give similar pain. Generally history of injury should be present. Was there any form of injury recently or in the recent past?

3. Rarely gastro esophageal reflux or even gastritis can present with similar symptoms. It should reduce with antacids.

4. See for any skin lesions over the chest.

5. Pleuritis or pericarditis can present with pricky pain. Deep breathing if pain exacerbates, it could be pleuritis.

Therefore in my opinion an ECG is necessary.

Any further queries, happy to help again.
