What Causes Pins And Needles In A 5 Year Old?

default
Posted on Wed, 17 Sep 2014
Question: My five year old son, as been complaining of pins and needles in his feet (mostly) for the last 18 months. We saw our GP but after talking through things she felt it was nothing to worry about. However, now the pins and needles are in Wills feet at least once a day. For relief we rub and bang his feet with our hands. He has no other symptoms and is generally really well. What do you think? XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
vitamin d 3 ,, folate

Detailed Answer:
Hi thanks for writing to us.

As you have stated a doctor has examined your child there will be nothing to panic about, but still i would like to rule out few things

Firstly examine the skin over his feet thoroughly , in between the toes , the sole , the ankle and also his legs.

Look for excessively sweaty feet.

Check his shoes.

A child of 18 months may misinterpret pain to pins and needles sensation.

If any abnormality is found in the skin, kindly revisit your doctor

Change the foot wear he uses.

last but not the least, supplement him with vitamin D 3 and folate regularly, the dosage which has to be fixed by the doctor.

Vitamin D 3 deficiency may cause pain in the limbs which a young child may misinterpret to pins and needle senastions.

Folate deficiency may cause pins and needle sensations.

Hope i have cleared your queries, kindly follow up.

Thank you.
