Question: My doctor is looking for my constant leg pain during my sleeping which includes a burning sensation in my knees . Brief Answer:
Need to rule out peripheral neuropathy and peripheral artery disease

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX XXXXXXX
Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic

Legs pain along with burning sensation could likely be peripheral neuropathy (damage to nerves) or peripheral artery disease (blockage in blood flow to the legs).

Physical examination and neurological examination can give an idea regarding whether the nerves or blood flow is affected.
With pain more marked during the night, neuropathy is a more possible cause

There are various causes for peripheral neuropathy including Diabetes, vitamin B12 ,b6 and folate deficiency, excessive alcohol use and thiamine deficiency, hypothyroidism etc .Blood investigations like Complete metabolic profile ,HBA1c, thyroid function test, nerve conduction study, Doppler blood flow analysis are needed at this point

Please be advised to follow up with your doctor as scheduled. Nerve pain is best treated with anti seizure medications like Neurontin.
Meanwhile you can use Tylenol for pain and apply capsaicin cream to the area of pain especially during night when you are having problems with lidocaine patch.

Hope this answers your questions
