Postural instability in elderly may be due to parkinsonism, neuropathy of other degenerative diseases.
Any previous illness, lower limb weakness, stroke, neck pain,back pain, memory problem, bladder complains.
He needs to be physically examined by a neurologist for detailed examination.
For initial workup you can get routine blood parameters like thyroid profile, vitamin B12 , urea , creatinine.
Other tests like nerve conduction study or imaging can be done once proper examination is done.
For the time being he can do physiotherapy and balancing exercises.
