What Causes Pressure In Chest On Moving Arm?

default
Posted on Fri, 19 Dec 2014
Question: Hi,recently i have observed the strange symptom and I just want to know what it could be.During my left arm movement(mostly when I keep my arm upward/while car gear shifting) I feel something in my left chest(top part near shoulder) gets pressed(I could pinpoint this) and this further leads to an upward movement till my left throat in a line and I feel very fearful (as my throat will not open). As soon as i get this reaction,I immediately change my arm direction and this feeling goes away.Could you please let me know is it related to some nerve/muscles as I am totally confused.
Background:I do type a lot on the computer and I have frequent backaches along with left arm pain during movements..

Hello
Thanks for posting
I have gone through your query and understand your concern. To help you better I would like to know-
1.The range of movement at left shoulder as compare to right shoulder?
2.Do you have any chronic condition like diabetes?
3.Are you able to perform activities of daily living?
Going by the symptoms and your profession it could well be due to shoulder and most likely shoulder impingement /subacromial bursitis. In this pain occurs on shoulder movement at particular angle.
Looking forward to your reply.
Take care

No diabetics
The movement is less as compared to right.
yes I can perform daily activities but pain is not the concern here....I experience that something is moving till my throat from inside of the chest (from some point)
That can also happen due to shoulder problem or could be some pinched nerve?
Also pain is their in elbow also during movement

Brief Answer:
It is more related with the shoulder

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Its good to see you
I have gone through the whole discussion and the symptoms are suggestive of shoulder joint as the primary cause.Do you have numbness, tingling sensation in upper limb as this could be due to pinched nerve?
You may take help of physiotherapist along with the treatment as discussed earlier. MRI is the investigation to confirm.
Hope this suffices.
Take care
