What Causes Profuse Nasal Bleeding Post A Nose Surgery?
Question: My daughter had nose surgery and needed a vessel to be quarterized as there was a bone shaving left over after her turbinates were shaved down that pierced the vessel. Her nose bled profusely do the ENT guy cauterised the vessel. For many years after now her nose hairs don't grow back and she is suffering with sore teeth etc. as she breathes badly especially at night. The doctor told her to use Vaseline in her nose so the hairs can grow back and not break off but Vaseline has petroleum in it that is dangerous to ingest. What can she do to help the hairs grow back?
Brief Answer:
Post turbinoplasty

Hi
Welcome to HealthcareMagic and thanks for putting up the query
Your daughter is probably suffering from atrophic changes. You should get a xray paranasal sinuses done and send me.
Please tell me does she have any nasal dryness?
Local application of Vaseline or petroleum gel is advisable in atrophied nasal mucosa.
It us not harmful. it should not be consumed but applied inside the nose.
A blood vessel may be required to be surprised during a nasal surgery.

Yes she does have dryness.
The vessel was only pierced by the tiny bone shaving a week after the surgery.
When we went back to see the ENT surgeon he had to cauterise her in the rooms.
You mentioned vaseline not being dangerous. But if you put it in your nose every night you are going to breath petroleum into your lungs even in minute amounts?

Hi,
Thanks for the additional information.
All the symptoms are suggestive of atrophic changes. Try nasal douching and please get an X-ray paranasal sinuses done.
The petroleum jelly applied topically is safe, don't worry.
However, I would advise you to rather do the nasal douching. She will definitely be benefited.
Any further questions are always welcome
Wishing her a speedy recovery
Thanks and regards
