What Causes Severe Abdominal Pain And Fibromyalgia?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Jan 2017
Question: My husband is experiencing pain in stomach. A sharp shooting pain to left of rib cage in middle of torso. On a scale 1-10 it stays a 7 and increases at times. He is 65 and diagnosed with Parkinson's two years ago. Also have Fibromyalgia. Takes many medications as also has depression from PTDS and bi-polar. Is a Veteran and stay current with doctor visits for this. Pain is a part of his life. Hes had neck surgery twice from having been caught between two railroad cars years ago. Had back surgery to relieve back pain one year ago. Recently (Sept 2016) had nose surgery because of nose pain. Been in pain in nose since then and now pain in stomach. Went to VA hospital ER yesterday cause he can't stand the level of pain. Was told blood work shows no infections and results were normal. Had stomach and chest X-rays which they said did not show any negative results. Have to return Tuesday to get cat scan because there was no staff employees at hospital to run one yesterday. We've tried to determine why stomach pain. Therefore took Polyethylene Glycol before bed last night to help bowel movements. Now cleaned out but have pain still. Can't eat but about 1 1/2 cups food and feels he shouldn't eat more. Have another appointment XXXXXXX 11 with nose surgeon about nose pain. But nausea and stomach pain concern us. He has taken OxyContin for pain until last week and now taking only acetaminophen for pain. Lying down helps some. In bed more than awake. What do you recommend?

Brief Answer:
Need to wait for CT scan.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam,

Thank you for posting your query on HCM.

Well looking into your problem I will like to tell you that , it can be a gall bladder stone or a renal stone . An ultrasound of abdomen should have been done to find this out . But CT scan would have been the best choice for it so , I think its better to wait for the report , because there can be so many causes for pain in abdomen and your history is very unspecific; therefore difficult to find a cause..

Take care.

Dr. Shruti
