Question: I am a 51 year old woman who has recently missed 2 periods and then had a 12 day period (mine are usually 3 days) and now have almost daily bleeding (bright blood, not regular period blood). I feel fine but slightly tired. what are the possibilities to treat without seeing a doctor? additionally, I have gained 45 lbs in the past year.

Brief Answer:
pelvic ultrasound.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.
I can understand your concerns.

There is irregularity of periods in peri-menopausal periods.

However, as you are having daily bleeding, I would suggest you to go for pelvic ultrasound to determine endometrial thickness.
In such cases, we wish to rule out endometrial hyperplasia and malignancy.

In my opinion, you must also get your thyroid status evaluated.
Tiredness may be due to loss of blood.
I would advise you to drink plenty of fluids, take multivitamin and iron supplements, increase green leafy vegetables in your diet.

Weight gain at this age may be due to hormonal changes.
Avoid fatty food and try to go for morning walk daily to control weight gain.

I think you should not ignore your symptoms and certainly consult a doctor (gynecologist).

Hope this helps.
Feel free to ask further.

Take care.
Thanks.
