Brief Answer:
Proteinuria may be due to secondary infection .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query ,and welcome to HCM, based on the facts that you have posted the proteinuria that you have is mostly due to UTI secondary to BPH .

Consult qualified Urologist for clinical examination and get following basic tests done to confirm the diagnosis.
1) Urine routine and culture.
2) Ultrasound scanning of abdomen and pelvis

Start taking broad spectrum antibiotics like Cefixime along with urinary antiseptic like Nitrofurantoin twice daily and urine alkalizer thrice daily .Later on switch on to appropriate antibiotics as per culture report.

Get the prescription of medicines from your family Physician.

Ensure to drink more water .To keep your urine dilute

Further treatment will depend upon result of these tests and final diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.

Dear Dr. Patil:

Thank you very much for your answer. If I have UTI secondary to BPH, why my urine test did not have WBC, RBC only protein?

Thanks again for your time.

Brief Answer:
Protein (one +) in urine has no significance .

Detailed Answer:

Hello

Thanks for follow up

Are you diabetic or do you have hypertension ?

Presence of one + proteins in urine has little significance as long as kidney function test are normal .

It is very common to have protein one + in a individuals with diabetes and hypertension or increased intake of proteins .

You need to monitor it frequently by doing urine test and Renal Function test.

Thanks and Regards.
