Posted on Thu, 17 Jul 2014
Question: hi , i'm writing this query because of pin worms. around 3 weeks ago , i first noticed them , took 100 mg mebendazole for 3 days , 2 times a day. and then again took the second course two weeks later.
so its been a week since the second course, but i can still feel peri anal pruritis, although worms in the stools are absent now.but i've recently started feeling some thing wriggling inside my ear, can this be extra intestinal manifestation of pin worms, i'm really worried as what could be this attributed to ? and what should i do for itching. kindly help.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.

First of all I would like to tell you that pin worm infestation is not the only cause of pruritus ani. They are many other causes as well.
Try to avoid coffee, chocolates and beer as these are the common culprits.
After bowel movements while washing do not rub vigorously.
Sometimes skin problems around the anus can also cause similar symptoms.

Since you have completed the course of mebendazole and you no longer see pin worms, your symptoms are not due to pin worms.

Follow the advice given above and take T.cetrizine at night for relief.

I hope that answers your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr.R.K.

Now that you have completed the course of medications, it is unlikely to be due to pin worms. You can follow the advise I have given in my previous post.

Get your ears examined for wax - the most common cause of the symptom you have mentioned.

No need for a third course

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
No need for a third course. If relapse occurs start a fresh course.
But I would suggest that everyone at home be treated simultaneously.

I hope that answers your question.
