What Causes Raised Red Rashes On Left Leg When Diagnosed With Contact Dermatitis?

default
Posted on Wed, 5 Aug 2015
Question: I have had a localized red, raised rash on my left leg for approximately six months. I was evaluated by a NP, diagnosed with contact dermatitis, placed on broad-spectrum ABT, medrol dose pack, and the rash continues. I've also tried topical treatments including mupirocin, triamcinalone, eucerin lotion, hydrocortisone cream; I've left the area open to air and covered with a dry clean dressing; no treatments have been effective as of yet. What other treatment options may be available that will help clear this rash?

Brief Answer:
fungal infection is most likely possibility

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Welcome to Healthcaremagic.com.
I have read your query.
I have seen the attached photograph also.
As per details, it seems to be fungal infection to me.
The points in favor are localized red well defined rash with mild scaling over one leg only.
In addition, it is not responding to the topical and oral steroids.
In my opinion , you should go for KOH test for fungal elements.
In such cases, I prefer to advise topical antifungals like clotrimazole cream and tablet fluconazole / terbinafine / itraconazole to my patients.
For itch, antihistaminics like levocetrizine help.
Visit your doctor and share my opinion with him.
I am.sure he would agree with this.
I hope it helps.
Take care
