What Causes Rapid Heartbeat And Nausea After A Heavy Meal?

Question: Last night, 3 hours after a big meal i went to bed and soon after laying down my heart started beating rapidly and I would get nauseous. Didn't vomit but it was a long night and ended up getting about 2 hours of sleep in a recliner sitting upright. This morning my chest is tight in the upper chest. I take generic Prilosec daily because I was having chest pressure several weeks ago. Is this acid reflux?
Brief Answer:
Your symptoms are typical for GERD (acid reflux)...
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX!
I read your query and understood your concerns.
Based on the data you provided your symptoms are typical for gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD or acid reflux). Because chest X ray, holter monitoring and cardiac enzymes were all normal.
If you were my patient I would recommend:
- abdominal ultrasound
- cardiac ECHO
- upper endoscopy
- continue prilosec for at least three months.
- avoid laying down to bed 1-3 hours after big meals.
Hope this was of help!
Wish you health!

thank you. I actually feel much better now than I did when I woke up. The symptoms I described have really been under control but bad holiday eating caught up with me and I paid the price last night. I do have an appt with my cardiologist in January and will mention these tests to him. Thank you.
