What Causes Rectal Bleeding?

default
Posted on Wed, 14 Sep 2016
Question: Last night i began bleeding rectally. This is new for me, never had hemmeroids or anal fissures. It continues this morning and my anxiety has kicked in - causing me to panic about it. I called in sick at work and kept my daughter (11) home from camp just in case it gets worse and I need someone to call 911.
Im embarrased and dont want to go to the doctor, but my anxiety steps in and does not let me ignore it. Now i have a headache from worry.
The blood is bright red with some clots.

Brief Answer:
Hemorrhoids or diverticulitis are th most probable reason.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Such bleeding is usually either from hemorrhoids or divericulitis. In very rare cases rectal cancer can be the reason as well.
When the bleeding is intense, can be a serious and life threatening problem. That is why, it is not a good idea to just ignore it.
Sooner or later you will decide to visit a doctor. No doubt in that. And you should do that.
Rectal examination, abdominal ultrasound, blood work and colonoscopy are the right tests you should have done. Without it, its hard to help you.

Hope this helps.
Regards.
