What Causes Rectal Discharge When Suffering From Hemorrhoids?

I had hemorrhoid but have been recovering from the condition through my diet, however lately I have been noticing a smelly discharge, though the discharge is very little in amount. Can you please help explain what is happening and how to avoid it.
Best regards,
XXXX
See a Doctor/ Surgeon who can examine you & rule out Fistula-in-ano
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thank you for the question.
Since when do you have Hemorrhoids and do they still bleed?
Smelly discharge could be either mucus secretion which is common in cases of Hemorrhoids or could be suggestive of an infection due to a Fistula-in-ano. Is there any pain along with the discharge or fever?
It would be best to see your Doctor or a Surgeon who can examine you as it is very difficult to say what it is without examination. Fistula can be ruled out on examination.
Fistula-in-ano is a communication or a track between the rectum and the skin around the anus which is usually due to an infection in the area of the anal skin.
It keeps discharging pus intermittently from the skin opening and is foul smelling. It can be painful also. It can be treated by antibiotics and Surgery to remove the track that has formed.
Therefore, I suggest you see the Surgeon and let him examine and decide what is best for you. Meanwhile, you should start a course of antibiotics. I usually prescribe my patients Tab Metronidazole or Flagyl twice daily after meals and Tab Augmentin also twice daily for seven days.
Do let me know if I can help you resolve any further queries on the subject.
I will look forward to hearing from you.
Take care,

Here are few items based on your inputs
- it's been two week I have hemorrhoid but since last week pain has come down to nill. And no, I never had bleeding.
- regarding discharge, it is not causing any pain except the bad odor. This discharge usually happens once or twice in a day
Also the medication that you have suggested, is it to treat hemorrhoids or the discharge.
Thank you so much

Pain is suggestive of Fistula or infection. Medicines are for infection.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the reply,
Did you see a Surgeon earlier?
Did he examine you with a Scope to see inside or without it?
If your initial symptom was pain and not bleeding then it is unlikely that you had hemorrhoids to begin with. The primary symptom of Hemorrhoids is bleeding and not pain.
It is possible that you had a Fistula-in-ano or an abscess to begin with.
The discharge you have is something like what happens in cases of Fistula.
The medication is to suppress infection which is suggested by the foul smelling discharge.
So, it is advised that you get examined again by a Surgeon and can see whether there is any infection or fistula.
