Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX XXXXXX,
Thanks for writing back with a query.
I have given thoughts to your problems concerning rectal muscle spasm. It can be due to a condition termed levator ani syndrom also called Proctalgia fugax.
This is a benign condition and often involves sudden episodic spasm of the rectal muscles. It subsides by itself within 20 minutes. Treatment involves analgesics, sitz baths. Sometimes electrogalvanic stimulation of the area might help.
I suppose your condition needs to be mentioned to your internist and discussed with your doctor.
Since you have been having this for years (since 21 years of age) there is no need to worry but if there is any another cause for your pain, it needs attention.
Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
Regards,
Dr.Vivek
