I have gastroparesis and suffer from severe motility problems. I live on Polyethylene Glycol, stool softeners, and Senna. I also suffer with severe rectal spasms and take Hyoscyamine. Just recently when my spasms were spiking to a "17" on the pain scale, one night while I was waiting for my second Vicodin to take effect, I read the ingredients on the package of peanut butter sandwich crackers I had been eating because I had already started to suspect them. The only ingredient that stood out to me was Soy. So through eating foods like my blueberry muffins and having a pain reaction within minutes and confirming with the bakery dept. that they contained Soy, and cutting out foods not listing Soy and having no pain for the previous 24 to 36 hours, and doing my own research on Soy, Soy seems to block my GI meds causing constipation, and rectal spasms, I am at my wit's end, not wanting to eat, and very discouraged. Soy is in almost everything in my house. I went through severe weight loss when first diagnosed with gastroparesis, and am again rapidly losing weight. I can't eat dairy either. I use almond milk. I am protein deficient. I am ready to give up on eating altogether. What can I do? I don't eat meat, fish, or fowl very often; not because I am vegetarian, but because of personal preference.
