Posted on Tue, 13 Dec 2016
Question: I had my appendix removed by surgery 12 years ago. Last 2 days I am getting appendicitis like symptoms - clenching pain in stomach, vomiting. Had headache and fever too but that's subsided now. I have not been able to eat or drink anything all day today. Please advise.

Brief Answer:
Most probably colitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
To recapitulate: Male/35 - appendectomy 12 years ago - getting appendicitis like symptoms for the last 2 days - clenching pain in abdomen - vomiting - headache and fever subsided - not been able to eat or drink anything all the day - Doctor opined about infection in appendix area hence given 2 bottles of IV drip and injections and Cefixime...

Since the appendix has been removed 12 years ago, this is least likely to be appendicitis unless a stump of appendix was present inadvertently.
Hence the most probable cause can be typhlitis or colitis, that is infection of the large bowel.
I would advise you the following:
Insist for tests of stool, urine and blood.
Ultrasonography of the abdomen or a CT scan to confirm the cause.
Clinical evaluation by a General Surgeon.
Continue Cefixime and other medications as have been advised and see the result.

I hope this answer helps you further for a proper diagnosis and having proper management.
