What Causes Recurring Fever, Cough And Cold In A 4 Year Old Child?
Question: My Son is 4. 1 yrs old weighing 18 kgs. Since last Saturday ( about 6 days) now, he is having fever on and off. We gave calpol/Meftal every 4 hours for first 3 days. Started with antibiotic Advent 228 mg since 2 days. today is third day. the fever is still coming in a span of about 8-10 hrs. the temp range btw 99 -101 deg. He is just not eating anything no solids at all.. just managing with milk at times. He has gone terrible weak. Some blisters inside the mouth only is seen yesterday. Having terrible cough and cold too.. He complained about stomach pain on the first day only. Do you see these as symptoms of something? What would be your immediate advice in this case. Awaiting eagerly for reply
Brief Answer:
Blood tests should be done
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Can understand your concerns.
Fever for 6 days with cold and cough could be due to upper respiratory tract infection. Advent is the antibiotic of choice in upper respiratory tract infection.
Since, fever is persisting, we have to also keep possibility of typhoid, malaria.
I suggest you to do Complete blood count, typhoid igm, malarial antigen test and crp levels in child.
Continue Advent Syrup. Give glucon-D if child is not taking feeds.
Review with reports.
I hope this will help you.
Wishing your child good health.
Take care.
