What Causes Recurring Fever Every Morning, Nausea And Back Pain?
Im a XXXXXXX (over 62). Have been getting a fever every morning around 11:00 or so, gets pretty high,
lasts about 4 hours and then subsides.
Have gotten pneumonia and flu shots, but it's not over yet -- since around Christmas.
Have suffered seasonal allegeries throughout life with "hay fever"?
I take 2 aspirins (81 mg)every morning, but doesnt seem to help the fever tho it easons some of my back pain. I have the fever right now, as Im writing this.. Symptoms are flu-like; no nausea; once or twice a mild headache.
Can you help? Thx
Cause of fever should be determined
Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome
I appreciate your concern
The fever should not be taken lightly. Flu shot and pneumococcal vaccine are preventive measures at best and don't treat acute infections. CBC, ESR/CRP and chest x ray should be done. Blood cultures should also be taken. If you are having spikes of fever despite being treated then clearly the infection has not resolved. Sputum for AFB should also be done. If a focus of infection is isolated on the physical exam then antibiotics should be initiated accordingly without waiting for the culture results. If the workup is normal then symptomatic treatment would required as a viral cause would be likely.
Wishing you best of health
Thanks
