What Causes Recurring Heart Burn With History Of Hiatal Hernia Surgery?
Question: I take Nexium everyday but am still getting heartburn from time to time. sometimes it's very severe. I had a hiatal hernia fixed when I had bariatric surgery. Can a hernia come back? At the time I didn't know that I had one until I was told they would fix it at the same time. What can I do to relieve it? Last night was a bad episode. Antacids don't always work.

It is possible for a hernia to recur. I think if you were having symptoms despite using Nexium I would try taking it twice daily.
I would also inform your primary care physician about what's going on. It might be a good idea to refer you to a gastroenterologist to take a look inside your esophagus and stomach.
also take a look at your died and try to decreased intake of greasy, fatty foods and caffeine. Try not to eat too much food at least two hours prior to going to bed.
I would try taking Nexium twice daily for about 10 to 14 days and see how things go. Beyond that I think you should talk about it with your primary care doctor.
