What Causes Recurring Throat Pain In Right Side And Difficulty In Swallowing?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: Hi,
I have this on & off dull aches deep in my throath since december. It is more toward the right side and I can feel it when I swallow in some positions.
I have had a complete gastro check-up in september ( upper and lower endo, CT scan, etc) and everything was ok. I have high anxiety levels lately because pf new job and an ongoing IVF process, and I have thyroid problems that run in the family on maternal side.
What could it be that causes this symptom?
Best regards,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
Globus hystericus is a possibility.
Detailed Answer:
Good day.
Noted your concern.
Good to hear that most of the investigations so far were negative. In that case , throat pain wouldn't be due to anything serious. Thyroid swellings would cause such pain but obviously scans would have picked it , if there were any.
However it may be a good idea to get thyroid blood works. It is common to have such symptoms in anxiety which is called as Globus hystericus. Stay relaxed. Practice meditation. Request your doctor to get a thyroid blood work.

Hi, thank you for your answer! The ct scan was of the abdomen, not the neck. I haven't had an ultrasound of thyroid done in some time. If it is not the thyroid, what is the probability that a serious problem occurs on my esophagus, given that in september everything was clear? Should I worry about that or have an upper endo redone?Btw, I am a female aged 33.
Brief Answer:
Thyroid blood works and scan
Detailed Answer:
oh okay.
Ultrasound of neck is an easy non invasive investigation which can easily identify nodules if there are any. In the short duration of time from September until Feb, it is unlikely that any new lesion has appeared in oesophagus. But acid reflux can appear in relatively short time. before redoing endoscopy, it may be worthwhile trying a course of anti acid medications.
To begin with, getting a thyroid blood work and ultrasound scan of neck should be easier.
