What Causes Red Rashes On Torso Spreading To Back And Face?
Question: Am 34 male.I have developed blisters and red rashes on torso and slowly appearing on back n face. I assumed chicken pox as I didn't get it in childhood n also recently came into contact of a colleague who got chicken pox. My doctor observed few rashes and say that IG may or may not be chicken pox. I had all symptoms. Mild fever up to 100f and tired feeling.few rashes are red with black center. Few are like blisters fluid filled and few appear to be normal red rashes. Doc prescribed resteclin 500 for 5 days. Is it safe to take? Any other precautions to be taken? Any blood test?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for writing to us on HCM.
I have reviewed your history and it seems very likely you might have got Chickenpox.
Resteclin which is basically tetracycline, is just an antibiotic and is not much useful in chicken pox which is actually a viral infection.
For better and faster diagnosis, I would strongly insist you to post me good quality clinical pictures to me as soon as you can.

Brief Answer:
Oral acyclovir
Detailed Answer:
Yes,
This is definitely Chicken pox.
I would suggest you the following regimen:
1.You should start oral Acyclovir(anti-viral drug) 800mg five times day with plenty of water for 5-7 days.
2. Instead of Resteclin switch to oral Azithromycin 500mg once daily empty stomach for 5 days.
3. Apply topical antibiotic like mupirocin thrice a day over lesions
4. Take antihistamines to relieve itching.
5. Oral paracetamol can be taken if required to relieve fever.
6. If there is any associated breathlessness or coughing, i would suggest you to get an X-ray of your chest and an opinion from your physician regarding any infection in lungs because in adults Chicken pox may be associated with complications like pneumonia.
I am sure you will be fine in few days with the above treatment regimen.
Let me know if you require any further assistance from my side.
Thank you and take care,
