What Causes Red Spot On Glans Penis Along With Difficulty In Retracting The Foreskin?

Question: Hi dr,

I am a little concerned with a red spotty rash that has developed on the top of the head of my penis. It has been there for 3 days now and it hasn't gotten better nor worse. I don't have any other symptons besides it being a little hard to retract at times. I have never had sex either so I am not worried about it being an STD or STI but I am unsure what it could be I am also uncircumcised and 18. I had just come off Hydrozole and Augmentin Duo Forte for Balanitis a couple weeks back could this be it possibly re appearing? Should I try an anti fungal cream or should I leave it for a while longer to see if it goes away on its own?

Kind Regards, XXXXXXX

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.

As you have little difficulty in retracting the foreskin and a red spot over glans penis, indicate that you are having both balanitis and posthitis.
Balano-posthitis can be caused by many causes either due to infection or irritation and also due to some rare causes. Infection could be due to various reasons from yeast, or herpes infection to anearobic bacteria.
Similarly Irritation might be due to the soaps and cleansing agents used over genitals and also due various different topical applications like antiseptic creams or lotions.

Even prolonged antibiotics like Augmentin duo can precipitate Yeast infection. Only by history and careful examination (if necessary investigations) one can diagnose the exact cause and treatment has to be planned accordingly. Hydrazole is a combination of both steroid and an anti-fungal. Specific diagnosis and specific and adequate treatment (both topical and oral), will cure the same.
