Brief Answer: Livedo Reticularis; Do cold protection Detailed Answer: Hi, Welcome and thanks for posting your query to Healthcare Magic. Though the query which you have posted is too short but it is quite close to the condition - Livedo Reticularis. Livedo Reticularis is characterized by mottled reticulated / Network like lines that appears as purplish discoloration of the skin. It is due to diminished/obstruction in the blood supply of small blood vessels in skin. The diminished blood supply is because of the cold weather or cold exposure. That is why this condition is aggravated by cold exposure and most commonly appears on legs and arms as are more prone for cold injury, but can occur on any body part including trunk also. It is most commonly a normal phenomenon in general population without any noticeable cause but can be sign of disease also. As you are 56 years, therefore i suggest you to go for all the complete routine blood counts and blood biochemistry including Erythrocyte sedimentation rate to rule out any internal problem. If it recurs again and again then can meet a dermatologist or a physician and appraise my suggestions. For the betterment and prevention: The most important thing is cold protection and preventing any abrupt change in temperature which are the initiating factors for the same. For the relief you wear cotton gloves and socks in twin layers with best of cold protection. Do not rewarm the area rapidly on heaters or warmers. You can take a pain killer such as paracetamol by mouth for one to two times a day. Stop any substance abuse such as alcohol and smoking. I hope these information's will help you. If you have further queries I will be happy to help. "Wish you good health" Regards, Dr Sanjay Kumar Kanodia MD (Dermatology )
