default
Posted on Wed, 27 May 2015
Question: I am 67 years old. I am not circumsized. I have an infection ?? at the top of my penis for the past six weeks. While in local walk in clinic for another issue the doctor gave me some cream and an antibiotic. My penis was very red at the top but it has eased off except for the foreskin is still red and closed at the top. Could it be a male UTI?

Brief Answer:
Could be due to infection of Foreskin and Glans penis(Ballano-Posthatitis)

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have infection of foreskin and Glans penis (Ballano-Posthatitis).

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1) Are you diabetic ?If yes is it under control.?
2) Have you done your blood sugar estimation very recently.?

In most of the cases it is usually due to Muco Cutaneous Genital Candidiasis
which is very common at this age.

Please get swab test and culture of discharge from the foreskin done to find out the organisms causing this infection and antibiotic to which they are sensitive to.

Please take anti fungal medication like Fluconazole along with antibiotic like Augmentin twice daily orally and topical anti fungal medication like Candid cream for local application .

Ensure to wash your genitals with warm water twice daily.

If you are diabetic proper control of sugar levels is mandatory.

It should get cured within a week.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
Dr.Patil.
